EkoZysk Landfill Ablaze Again: Smoke Visible for Kilometers

A large fire erupted at the EkoZysk waste landfill in Nowy Modlin, Poland, on May 1st, sending a massive plume of smoke visible for dozens of kilometers.

Fire Breaks Out at Plastic Waste Heap

On Friday, May 1st, at 13:19, a large fire broke out at a waste landfill in Nowy Modlin, Nowy Dwór County. The fire engulfed sorted plastic waste, creating a significant smoke cloud visible from a distance of several dozen kilometers.

The fire started in an area where plastic waste was stored in a heap approximately 100 by 60 meters in size. Intense firefighting efforts are underway, but the fire has not yet been contained.

Extensive Firefighting Response

A large number of firefighters have been deployed to combat the blaze. 21 fire crews from Nowy Dwór County, as well as firefighting platoons from Legionowo and Warsaw West counties, are on scene.

A chemical unit from Warsaw Fire Station 6 and an operational group from the Commander of the Mazowieckie Provincial State Fire Service are also participating in the operations.

Scale of the Incident and Ongoing Operations

Due to the type of waste stored and the size of the fire, operations are being conducted on a large scale. Thick smoke is rising above the site and is visible from a great distance.

Firefighters are continuing to extinguish the fire and secure the area.

No Injuries Reported, Investigation Pending

Currently, there are no reports of injuries. The cause and circumstances of the fire will be determined after the rescue and firefighting operations are completed.

This is the latest in a series of fires to occur at this landfill.
