Prime Minister Donald Tusk has confirmed that Pope Leo XIV has been invited to Poland, with the visit expected to take place in 2028 following recent discussions in the Vatican.
An Invitation to Poland
Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed a heartfelt invitation to the Holy Father to visit Poland on behalf of the nation. While the exact date is still to be determined, both parties expressed great joy regarding the visit regardless of future developments. Due to the Pope’s calendar and the fact that 2027 is an election year in Poland, the visit is expected in 2028.
Vatican Meeting and Reflections
During his meeting with Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, Tusk laid flowers at the tomb of John Paul II. He noted that the conversation was surprisingly informal and deeply moving, emphasizing that the Pope’s words can improve a world that is currently heading in an unfavorable direction.
Tusk conveyed the Pope’s message to the Polish people, urging them not to lower their heads and not to lose hope, but to build strength for the sake of good so that people of goodwill can act united against chaos.
Church Relations and Global Affairs
The meeting also addressed the situation of the Catholic Church in Poland, including the issue of religion in schools. Tusk assured religious leaders that he would seek dialogue and understanding rather than confrontation, stating that one does not need to renounce their own views but can convince others without raising one’s voice, as finding agreement is in Poland’s interest.
Furthermore, the discussions touched upon the situation in Ukraine and the maintenance of international order.
Diplomatic Gift Exchange
Tusk presented the Pope with the Pentateuch in the Kashubian language. In return, the Pope gifted the Prime Minister a beautiful art album and a text containing the term “Peacemakers” addressed to him.
