Prominent Surgeon Prof. Marcin Kozakiewicz Killed in Wrong-Way A1 Crash

Renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon Prof. Marcin Kozakiewicz died following a high-speed collision on the A1 motorway between Tuszyn and Łódź-Południe, caused by a driver traveling in the wrong direction.

Fatal Collision on the A1

The tragedy occurred overnight between May 23 and 24. A car carrying three doctors returning from a dental congress in the Tricity area was struck by a vehicle with Czech license plates driving against traffic.

Tribute to a Leading Specialist

The Polish Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery confirmed the professor’s death. Colleagues remembered him as a person of great knowledge, kindness, and class, noting his significant contributions to the development of his medical field.

Details of the Incident

Three doctors from Łódź were in the vehicle: Prof. Marcin Kozakiewicz, Dr. Izabela Gabryelczak, and Dr. Tomasz Wach. All were transported to hospitals in Łódź with serious injuries. The 69-year-old Czech citizen driving the wrong-way vehicle also died in the collision.

Ongoing Investigation

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Piotrków Trybunalski is leading an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy. The loss has deeply affected the medical community, where Prof. Kozakiewicz was highly regarded for both his surgical expertise and his commitment to professional advancement.
