Divers Recover Body from Lake Juksty After Pedalo Accident

Search efforts on Lake Juksty near Mrągowo concluded Tuesday afternoon when divers recovered a male body from a depth of 24 meters following a fatal pedalo capsize earlier that morning.

Recovery Operation

The body was located on the lakebed approximately 100 meters from the shore, after a sonar scan pinpointed the search area. The operation involved emergency services from Mrągowo, Giżycko, and Olsztyn using specialized equipment, including drones and sonars.

Police have not yet formally identified the deceased as the 18-year-old missing since the morning incident. ASP. Rafał Syczew confirmed that authorities are awaiting the arrival of family members to conduct a formal identification.

Accident During Pedalo Swap

The incident occurred near Śniadowo involving four individuals aged 18–19. Police reports indicate the pedalo capsized while the group was attempting to change seats. Two individuals managed to swim to shore, and a third was rescued by firefighters while clinging to the vessel.

The group, identified as recent high school graduates from the Masovian Voivodeship, were visiting the Masuria region for a holiday. The fourth member of the group, an 18-year-old male, failed to reach the shore.

Investigation and Safety Warnings

Local police, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the capsizing. Authorities are working to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

In the wake of the incident, emergency services have issued a reminder that life jackets must be worn at all times when using water equipment, urging caution even on seemingly calm water.
