Apprehension in Luszewo
Police officers from the Glinojeck station stopped a 31-year-old man from the Ciechanów district on the evening of May 18. The cyclist’s erratic path caught the attention of officers, leading to a breathalyzer test which confirmed a blood alcohol level of nearly 4 promille.
Legal Consequences for Drunk Cycling
Following the stop, the man was issued a fine of 2,500 PLN. Authorities emphasized that even small amounts of alcohol significantly impair reaction times, balance, and the ability to accurately judge the speed and distance of approaching vehicles.
Regulatory Fines for Intoxication
Current regulations mandate a 1,000 PLN fine for cycling in a state “after alcohol consumption” (0.2 to 0.5 promille). For intoxication levels exceeding 0.5 promille, the penalty increases to 2,500 PLN, highlighting the severe risk posed to all road users.
