Police in Lower Silesia found a Mercedes partially stopped on the S3 expressway with its hazard lights on. When officers approached to help, the driver exited the vehicle but left his two children, aged six and eight, inside. A police spokeswoman emphasized the children were left in “an extremely dangerous place” and were “shaken and terrified.”
Driver Had High Blood Alcohol Level
During questioning, police detected alcohol on the driver. A breathalyzer test revealed he had 1.8 permille of alcohol in his system. The 37-year-old man also lacked documentation for the vehicle’s technical inspection and mandatory OC insurance.
Driver Was Out of Fuel
According to police, the man was traveling from Wałbrzych to Legnica to pick up his partner when he ran out of fuel on the S3. His children’s mother was called to the scene and took custody of the children along with their grandmother.

Police detained the man and revoked his driver’s license and registration certificate. They also filed a report with the Insurance Guarantee Fund regarding the missing insurance. The car was towed at the owner’s expense. The driver could face up to five years in prison. Police stated that without their quick intervention, “this story could have ended in tragedy.”
