New forensic and toxicological reports have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the April 23rd death of MP Łukasz Litewka, who was struck by a car while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
Medical and Forensic Findings
Łukasz Litewka, a 36-year-old Left-wing MP from Sosnowiec known for his charity work, died after being struck by a Mitsubishi Colt on Kazimierzowska Street. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Sosnowiec has received a full autopsy report confirming that the MP’s death was caused by a leg injury, the severing of major arteries, and subsequent massive hemorrhaging.
Driver Investigation and Toxicology
A toxicological report confirms the 57-year-old driver had no substances in his system that would have impaired his perception or motor skills. Prosecutors state this finding does not necessitate a modification of the current charges. Additionally, forensic analysis of the driver’s phone confirmed he was not using the device at the time of the collision.
Context of the Incident
Data analysis indicates that the MP was using a headset during his phone call at the moment of the impact. Investigators noted that because he was not holding the phone, no traffic regulations were violated in that regard. Authorities have interviewed the person the MP was speaking with just before the tragedy occurred.
Witnesses and Reconstruction
Investigators have expanded the list of witnesses to include firefighters and other individuals present at the scene immediately after the accident. No eyewitnesses to the actual collision have been identified. Work is currently underway on a detailed accident reconstruction report, which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks as part of an investigation likely to last until autumn.
Legal Status of the Suspect
The driver faces charges of causing a fatal traffic accident, punishable by six months to eight years in prison. The prosecutor alleges the man unintentionally violated traffic rules. While the District Court initially ordered bail and preventive measures, the Regional Court in Sosnowiec lifted these on May 12th. The defense maintains that the suspect does not dispute his guilt.
