A motorist died on Monday, May 18, after their Ford collided head-on with a Scania semi-truck on a local road between Dąbrowa and Chmielewo in the Zaręby Kościelne municipality.
Details of the Crash
The accident occurred on a local route between Dąbrowa and Chmielewo. Preliminary findings indicate the Ford drifted into the oncoming lane and struck the Scania truck, which subsequently hit a tree.
Emergency Response and Rescue Challenges
Emergency services, including police, medical teams, and four fire units, were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers faced extreme difficulty accessing the victims inside the crushed Ford.
Due to the severity of the damage, three additional specialized technical rescue units were brought in from Warsaw. Only after these specialized operations were completed could firefighters reach the individual inside the car.
Outcome of the Accident
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The 56-year-old driver of the Scania truck was unharmed and tested sober; he held valid driving credentials.
Investigation Status
The road remains blocked as police conduct an investigation under the supervision of a prosecutor to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the tragedy.
