An 18-year-old driver died following a collision between two jet skis during the first round of the Polish Jet Ski Championships in Płock on Saturday, May 9.
Fatal Collision at Polish Championships
The accident occurred during the first round of the Polish Jet Ski Championships in Płock, where a collision between two vessels resulted in the death of an 18-year-old driver. The competition was immediately halted.
The second driver, a 54-year-old, did not sustain serious injuries. He was confirmed to be sober, and blood samples were taken for further analysis.
Prosecution Launches Criminal Investigation
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Płock announced that an investigation will be formally initiated on Monday. The proceedings will likely be conducted under Article 160 of the Penal Code, concerning the exposure of a person to immediate danger of loss of life or serious health impairment.
The investigation will also encompass Article 155, which pertains to the unintentional causing of death.
Evidence Collection and Forensic Analysis
Both jet skis, as well as the victim’s helmet and suit, have been secured for detailed examination. An autopsy of the 18-year-old is tentatively scheduled for next week.
Immediate evidentiary actions included a detailed inspection of the competition route used by the jet skis.
Witness Testimony and Digital Documentation
Twelve participants and several judges have already been questioned. These interviews were conducted promptly due to the witnesses originating from across Poland and abroad.
The prosecution also seized competition documentation regarding regulations and movement rules, as well as film recordings, including footage captured by drones.
Event Organization and Jurisdiction
The first round of the Polish Jet Ski Championships—the Masovia Championship round in the stockbox class—was organized by the Polish Motor Water and Water Skiing Association and the Voluntary Water Rescue Service in Płock.
The investigation into the fatal accident is being conducted by the Płock District Prosecutor’s Office.
