A heatwave is set to hit Poland on Thursday, with temperatures soaring up to 32°C in central and southern regions, as the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issues heat alerts.

Heatwave Conditions Across the Country

A high-pressure system from the British Isles is shaping the weather in Poland, bringing record-breaking heat on Thursday, August 28. Meteorologists predict the warmest temperatures will occur in central and southern regions, with thermometers potentially reaching 31–32°C. Other areas will also experience high temperatures, ranging from 25–26°C in northern Poland to approximately 28°C in the east.

IMGW Issues First and Second-Level Heat Alerts

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first- and second-level heat warnings, effective starting at 12:00 PM on Thursday. First-level alerts apply to counties in the Lubusz, Lower Silesia, Opole, Łódź, Greater Poland, and Kuyavia-Pomeranian provinces. Second-level alerts cover parts of the Masovian and Podlaskie regions, as well as sections of the Łódź province.

Weather Forecast: Rain Showers and Gusts Possible in Some Areas

Thursday will bring predominantly sunny weather across most of Poland. However, cloud cover may increase in the west and northwest, with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall during thunderstorms could reach up to 15 mm in some areas, and 20 mm on Western Pomerania. Strong gusts of wind are expected in central and southern regions, with winds in Silesia and Podhal reaching up to 75 km/h, and 100 km/h in the Tatra Mountains.
