Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the largest opposition party in Poland, insists that Law and Justice must seize full power to form a strong government, directly criticizing Sławomir Mentzen’s Confederation for its divisive proposals and potential parliamentary alliance.

Kaczyński in Białystok: Pursuing Full Power
On Monday, Jarosław Kaczyński, president of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, addressed voters in Białystok, declaring that PiS must assume full authority to lead a competent government. He argued that a strong mandate with widespread support is essential, stating it could only emerge if PiS forms the next government. Kaczyński dismissed the possibility of a coalition with the Confederation, despite recent polls indicating a potential parliamentary majority for parties opposed to PiS. “The Confederation has repeatedly claimed solidarity, but its insistence on extreme income disparities and social division contradicts national interests,” he said.
PiS President Attacks Mentzen
Kaczyński personally targeted Sławomir Mentzen over the Confederation’s proposal for 4,000 zł treatment vouchers, calling the policy morally unacceptable and socially destabilizing. “We don’t want a Poland where a small group monopolizes wealth while others live in poverty. That is what Mentzen advocates, along with questionable subsidies for healthcare,” he asserted. He warned that if the Confederation aligns with the Civic Platform (PO), it would “stand on the side of what can be calmly called a national betrayal.”
“National Betrayal” According to Kaczyński
This week, Kaczyński briefed on a potential alliance between Confederation leaders and the leftist Kukiz’15 party in Gdańsk, claiming PO’s strength would dominate. He noted that Confederation politicians had not signed PiS’s draft declaration, which explicitly excluded coalition talks with Donald Tusk. Earlier this month, Grzegorz Płaczek, head of the Confederation’s parliamentary group, admitted open negotiations with PO were ongoing, though the party declined to participate in the declaration.
