Medical Evacuation from China: Polish Patient Successfully Transported to Wroclaw

Following a complex diplomatic and logistical effort involving 13 countries, 23-year-old Klaudia has been safely evacuated from China to a military hospital in Wroclaw for continued critical care.

Medical Crisis Abroad

Klaudia, a student from Walbrzych based in Beijing, was diagnosed with an ovarian teratoma in mid-April. While the tumor was successfully removed, severe complications including peritonitis, pneumonia, encephalitis, duodenal perforation, and a liver abscess left her in a coma and reliant on a ventilator.

Complex Logistical Operation

The Ministry of National Defense, led by Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, facilitated the medical evacuation after costs in China exceeded the family’s resources. A military Boeing 737 completed the 14-hour flight on June 3, requiring clearance from 13 different nations.

Hospitalization and Recovery

Klaudia was transported to the Fourth Military Clinical Hospital in Wroclaw upon landing. Her mother, Joanna, reported that she withstood the long flight well, though she remains in critical condition and is now undergoing specialized examinations.

Financial Burden and Treatment Costs

Treatment in China cost over $100,000, with intensive care exceeding 5,000 PLN per day excluding medications and procedures. The family has successfully raised over one million zlotys through public fundraising to cover the Beijing medical bills and upcoming rehabilitation in Poland.
