New Details on the Bank Robbery

According to the DPA agency, the incident occurred on Friday, May 8, at a Volksbank branch in Sinzig, Germany. An automatic alarm triggered in the morning, leading to a large-scale deployment of police, emergency medical services, and the fire department.

Reports from “Bild” indicate that an armored money transport vehicle arrived at the facility. As an employee attempted to enter the bank, an unknown man stopped the driver, threatened him, and subsequently barricaded himself with him inside a safe.

Koblenz police stated that several perpetrators were inside the branch. After a several-hour impasse, special units entered the bank and found two people locked in a room. A police spokesperson confirmed they are safe; according to “Bild,” they were the armored vehicle driver and a bank employee. There is currently no information regarding any fatalities or injuries.

Ongoing Police Manhunt

The perpetrator or perpetrators escaped the scene in an undetermined manner. While a manhunt is underway, police believe it is unlikely the suspects remain near the bank. Details remain unclear, including whether the suspects escaped with the loot, as police state only that the “operation is ongoing.”
