On November 3, PiS members staged a press conference outside the Polish People’s Party (KO) parliamentary club in Warsaw’s Sejm, launching an attack on KO deputy Dariusz Joński over alleged gifts from a convicted fraudster.
Coalition Clash Outside Parliament
Paweł Jabłoński, Waldemar Buda of PiS and deputy spokesperson Mateusz Kurzejewski gathered at the KO club’s entrance on November 3 to host a press briefing, immediately sounding a tense tone among Parliament’s political factions.
PiS Targets Dariusz Joński
The briefing focused on claims reported by the portal Goniec that Joński accepted presents from Andrzej R., a man sentenced in 2022 to six years for financial fraud. PiS said Joński was allegedly receiving gambling‑related gifts and that the deputy denied all allegations.
Plaints of Criminal Links
Deputy Buda demanded “show the invoices for the suits,” arguing the article purports connections between Joński and a criminal network. He said, “If the book veers into faked fraud, we must confirm whether the suits were bought by the alleged criminal.”
KO’s Counter‑Speech
KO MP Adrian Witczak interrupted several times, filing an informal complaint at the KO office. He hung a poster reading “Entire PiS is stealing,” citing former Minister Robert Telus’s comments about the CPK plot. Witczak also joked about the sale of land for CPK and questioned PiS’s statements regarding the issue.
Background: CPK Plot Scandal
On December 1, 2023, during Mateusz Morawiecki’s cabinet, the Ministry of Agriculture approved the sale of 160 hectares in Zabłotnie for a proposed high‑speed rail line. The land, potentially worth around 400 million zlotys, was sold for 23 million zlotys, sparking allegations of abuse of authority.
Legal Implications and Investigations
The prosecutor’s office has launched an inquiry into possible overreach by KOWR officials. Former ministers Robert Telus, Rafał Romanowski, Waldemar Humięcki, and deputy director Jerzy Wal have been suspended from party duties. The KOWR has already requested the return of the land, and a scheduled meeting with its vice‑president will take place on November 5.
