Jarosław Kaczyński, Mateusz Morawiecki, and Przemysław Czarnek presented PiS’s new economic strategy, “Alternative 2.0,” in Warsaw on Saturday.
Kaczyński: Necessary Restructuring of State and Education
PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński emphasized the need for a “good and strong state” that fosters loyalty, stating a “change of power” and “restructuring of the system” are crucial for economic development.
He also called for eliminating politicians who disregard rules and acquiring qualifications in modern fields like artificial intelligence.
Kaczyński highlighted the need to rebuild the education system to strengthen national identity and create conditions for “informational sovereignty,” including developing domestic cloud computing and platforms.
Morawiecki: 2 Trillion Złoty for Polish Defense
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed the need to move away from an economy based on low labor costs and foreign technology.
He estimated Poland could spend approximately 2 trillion złoty on defense over the next 10 years, directing these funds towards the Polish private arms industry to reduce reliance on external sources.
Morawiecki advocated for 85% of the defense budget to be spent within Poland and emphasized the importance of dual-use goods like AI, drones, and satellite technology, alongside accelerating regulatory processes.
Czarnek: Social Market Economy and Public Entities
PiS’s prime ministerial candidate, Przemysław Czarnek, stated investment decisions must prioritize the well-being of Polish citizens.
He proposed revisiting the constitutional pillars of economic freedom, private property, and public entities, ensuring public entities operate where “strategically necessary,” citing utilities, public transport, and the arms industry as examples.
Internal Party Context
In March, Morawiecki held a conference on the “Powered by Poland” report, which some media outlets characterized as a challenge to the party due to internal factional disputes.
Since late November, reports have indicated a conflict within PiS between supporters of Morawiecki (“scouts”) and his opponents (“butter-makers”) and the faction led by former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro.
