23-Year-Old Father Arrested Following Hospital Visit for Infant’s Injuries

After a 19-year-old mother brought her nine-month-old son to a Sandomierz hospital for a fever on Thursday, doctors discovered suspicious injuries on the child, leading to the father’s subsequent arrest.

Suspicious Findings at Sandomierz Hospital

Sub-inspector Maciej Ślusarczyk of the Kielce Provincial Police reported that a 19-year-old woman arrived at the hospital on Thursday with her nine-month-old son due to the infant’s fever. During the medical examination, physicians identified injuries on the child’s body that suggested external physical interference, prompting the hospital to alert law enforcement.

Formal Charges and Detention

Following an investigation conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor, police gathered evidence that led to the arrest of the child’s 23-year-old father. Daniel Prokopowicz, spokesperson for the Kielce District Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that the man was charged on Friday with abusing his nine-month-old son and causing minor bodily harm.

Legal Consequences and Sentencing

The prosecutor’s office requested and successfully secured a three-month temporary arrest for the suspect. The man faces a prison sentence ranging from three months to five years; however, due to the victim’s young age, the potential sentence could be increased to a range of six months to eight years.
