27-Year-Old Suspect Remanded for Murder of 75-Year-Old Taxi Driver in Pomerania

A 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody for three months following the murder of a 75-year-old taxi driver near Młynki, Pomerania, on the night of June 12–13.

Pre-trial detention and charges

On Monday, June 15, the District Court in Chojnice ordered a three-month pre-trial detention for 27-year-old Mateusz G. The prosecutor’s motion was granted due to the risk of obstruction of justice and the severity of the potential penalty.

Mateusz G. was brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Chojnice earlier that morning. He faces charges of murder in connection with a robbery.

Confession and motive

The suspect has admitted to the crime and provided a statement claiming the act was premeditated. He alleged the victim had previously harmed a woman known to him.

Prosecutor Mirosław Orłowski stated that while the suspect’s version will be verified, the investigation remains focused on murder driven by robbery and the intent to steal the victim’s vehicle.

Details of the attack

The suspect and the victim were acquaintances, as Mateusz G. had previously used the driver’s services. On the night of the incident, the suspect hired the taxi in Czersk for a trip to Chojnice, then ordered the driver to pull over at a parking lot near National Road 22.

The 75-year-old sustained three knife wounds: one to the neck while inside the car and two to the chest after being forced out. The suspect attempted to flee in the victim’s Mercedes, but the vehicle stalled after a few hundred meters.

Apprehension and evidence

Medical responders confirmed the driver was deceased upon arrival. The suspect was apprehended in Gdańsk on Saturday, June 13, while under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators have secured blood-stained clothing and fingerprint evidence. Mateusz G. faces a potential life sentence.
