Pawn Shop Thief Arrested for Stealing Gold Chain

Mokotów police have apprehended a 40-year-old man who exploited a pawn shop employee’s distraction to steal a gold chain worth 14,000 PLN before selling the item at another location.

The Theft at the Pawn Shop

The incident occurred at a pawn shop in Warsaw’s Mokotów district. According to reports, a customer took advantage of a momentary lapse in the clerk’s attention. While the employee was attending to their workstation, the man reached over the counter, seized a gold chain featuring two pendants, hid it, and exited the premises.

The theft was only discovered during a subsequent inventory check. After reviewing surveillance footage, the shop confirmed the crime and immediately notified the police.

Investigation and Arrest

Officers from the Property Crimes Department launched an investigation to locate the suspect. Despite the 40-year-old’s attempt to evade law enforcement, diligent operational analysis led officers to his location, resulting in his arrest.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to the theft and admitted to selling the stolen jewelry to cover personal expenses. The man now faces a charge of theft and could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Legal Proceedings

The investigation is currently being conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Mokotów.
