President Karol Nawrocki has expanded the Council for a New Constitution, appointing new members including prominent politicians from the PiS and Konfederacja parties to work toward a 2030 constitutional draft.

Council Expansion and Inauguration
In early May, President Karol Nawrocki established the Council for a New Constitution to develop a draft by 2030. Initial members appointed at the Royal Castle included Julia Przyłębska, Ryszard Piotrowski, Barbara Piwnik, Józef Zych, Marek Jurek, Ryszard Legutko, and Anna Łabno.
On Friday, the Council held its inaugural meeting at the Belweder Palace. Chief of the Presidential Cabinet Zbigniew Bogucki presented appointment acts to the new members on behalf of the President.
Political and Expert Composition
The Council aims to forge a broad, non-partisan constitutional compromise that addresses contemporary and future challenges. Its membership now includes academics, legal practitioners, and representatives from parliamentary clubs.
New appointees include former First President of the Supreme Court Małgorzata Manowska, as well as politicians Przemysław Wipler, Przemysław Czarnek, Paweł Kukiz, Krzysztof Szczucki, and Tobiasz Bocheński. Numerous other legal and academic experts were also appointed to the body.
Constitutional Amendment Requirements
Under the current legal framework, changing the constitution requires a two-thirds majority in the Sejm with at least 230 deputies present. Additionally, an absolute majority of votes is required in the Senate.
