Iran’s Supreme Leader Vows Revenge: “They Will Take Their Dreams of a Peaceful Death to the Grave”

Following his father’s burial four months after the strike that killed him, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has officially declared that the state will pursue vengeance for the assassination.

The Vow of Retribution

Iran’s supreme spiritual and political leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has formally announced plans for retaliation following the death of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. The late leader was killed in an American-Israeli strike four months ago, though his burial took place only on Thursday, July 9.

In a written statement, Mojtaba Khamenei asserted that the nation demands revenge, confirming that it must occur. He added that the identities of those responsible are known and declared they will take their dreams of a peaceful death in old age to the grave.

Legacy and Succession

Ali Khamenei, 86, was killed on February 28 during the initial day of American-Israeli strikes on Iran. He led the country for nearly 37 years, holding supreme religious and political authority. Following his death, his son, Mojtaba, was selected as the new leader. Wounded in the same raid, the younger Khamenei has not appeared in public since his appointment.

Tensions and Threats

The late leader was interred in his hometown of Mashhad between Thursday and Friday. Public mourning services, marked by anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans and direct threats against U.S. President Donald Trump, have been ongoing since July 4.

Conflict between Washington and Tehran has escalated significantly in the past week, with both sides accusing each other of violating truce agreements. After announcing the end of the ceasefire, Donald Trump threatened the total annihilation of Iran through a year-long bombardment campaign in response to reports of Iranian assassination plots against him.
