The incident occurred on Friday, July 10, in the village of Stare Płudy, located in the Wyszków district. The operator first mounted a sidewalk leading to a roadside shrine, damaging its surface before crashing into a private fence and snapping three pine trees, after which he fled the scene.
Police Intervention and Charges
Witnesses pursued the excavator and alerted local authorities. Responding officers found the 39-year-old operator, who claimed he was only driving to the store, to be significantly intoxicated. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood-alcohol level of nearly 3 promiles.
Lack of Credentials and Insurance
Upon further investigation, police confirmed that the driver held no license to operate the machinery. Additionally, the excavator lacked mandatory civil liability insurance, rendering its operation on public roads illegal.
