Extradition process initiated
Prosecutor Anna Adamiak, spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, announced that the extradition request for former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro is complete. The document is currently undergoing formal review by the International Cooperation Bureau of the National Prosecutor’s Office to ensure compliance with the Polish-American extradition treaty.
Once finalized, the request will be translated and submitted to the Ministry of Justice for formal processing through diplomatic channels. Officials indicate that the document will be dispatched in the near future.
Legal status and previous developments
The move follows a Warsaw district court decision upholding a temporary arrest warrant for Ziobro, who is a suspect in an investigation regarding irregularities within the Justice Fund. Previously, Ziobro had sought international protection in Hungary; however, reports indicate that Hungary revoked his refugee status and travel documents before he relocated to the United States.
Allegations and investigation
Ziobro, who confirmed his presence in the United States on May 10, entered the country using a media visa. Prosecutors allege that during his tenure as Justice Minister, he committed 26 offenses, including issuing unlawful directives to subordinates to ensure specific entities received funding and interfering with competitive bidding processes.
