New Salary Multipliers for Medical Staff at Poland’s Social Insurance Institution

Starting July 16, a new regulation from the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy establishes standardized salary multipliers for medical professionals employed by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) in Poland.

Standardizing medical remuneration

The regulation defines salary multipliers for adjudicating physicians, supervising doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists. These coefficients determine the gross base salaries for medical staff employed under employment contracts at ZUS.

By linking these salaries to the average gross monthly wage in the national economy, the new rules ensure that pay will automatically adjust to labor market fluctuations, creating a transparent compensation structure.

Current salary ranges

Under the new rules, gross monthly base salaries for adjudicating physicians range from 14,200 PLN to 20,000 PLN. Nurses and male nurses earn between 10,700 PLN and 14,200 PLN, while physiotherapists receive between 11,600 PLN and 15,600 PLN.

Reform of medical adjudication

These salary adjustments are part of a broader reform of ZUS adjudication introduced by the December 2025 law. The changes aim to modernize the system, allowing for more flexible employment models and opening specific tasks to physiotherapists and nurses.

Furthermore, the reform lowers qualification barriers, allowing physicians undergoing specialization training and those with at least five years of professional experience to work within the ZUS system alongside specialists.

Preparing for future operational changes

The current updates serve as a foundation for further system upgrades scheduled for 2027. Future changes include the introduction of electronic rulings, e-visits, and standardized deadlines to accelerate customer service and streamline the handling of millions of social security claims.
