Investigation into EU-Funded E-Learning Projects
According to the National Prosecutor’s Office, the motion is based on findings regarding irregularities in e-learning training for micro, small, and medium enterprises. These activities were conducted under the “Lubuskie Development Vouchers in the Zielona Góra subregion – Edition II” and “Lubuskie Training Vouchers in the Gorzów subregion – Edition II” projects, which ran between 2019 and 2021 and were co-financed by the European Union.
The collected evidence establishes a sufficiently grounded suspicion that MP Łukasz Mejza committed three separate acts, each fulfilling the criteria for fraud, certification of untruths in documents, and subsidy extortion, as stated in the prosecutor’s announcement.
False Invoices and the Future Wolves Company
The case involves the company “Future Wolves,” operated by the former PiS MP. In 2020, Mejza allegedly conspired with another person to defraud the Regional Development Agency in Zielona Góra of over 66,000 PLN, resulting in an actual loss of nearly 50,000 PLN. The former MP reportedly provided training participants with his own funds so they could pay the required own contribution.
As a result, prosecutors state that Mejza manipulated participants into selecting trainings organized by “Future Wolves” without maintaining impartiality, and subsequently certified untruths in invoices concerning conditions necessary to secure financial support through subsidies.
Long-Standing Scrutiny and Ministerial Resignation
The case was originally reported by Wirtualna Polska in 2021. An inspection by the Social Fund Department of the Marshal’s Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship at the Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gorzów Wielkopolski revealed that Łukasz Mejza committed irregularities regarding the spending of EU funds.
WP established that the chamber acted as an operator for the Gorzów subregion program, during which Future Wolves received 240,000 PLN in the first edition and 58,5 کیلoty (58,500 PLN) in the second edition spanning 2020 to 2022. On December 23, 2021, Mejza resigned from his position as Deputy Minister of Sport.
