Knife-Wielding Thief Arrested by Bemowo Police After Store Stabbing

A 50-year-old man was remanded in custody for three months after stabbing two store employees with a knife during an attempted theft escape in Warsaw’s Bemowo district.

Three-Month Custodial Remand for Suspect

The court applied a three-month arrest at the request of the prosecutor’s office against a man suspected of bodily harm. Initial information indicates the perpetrator previously stole goods and injured a security guard and a store employee with a knife while fleeing. The 50-year-old was tracked down by detectives from Warsaw’s Bemowo and faces up to 5 years in prison.

Store Theft Escalates to Knife Attack

The incident took place in the Bemowo area, where police received a report about a security worker and a shop employee being stabbed by a perpetrator. Upon arriving, officers established that the suspect stole merchandise, left the cash register area without paying, and discarded the goods when employees gave chase. A scuffle ensued, during which the 50-year-old stabbed both men—inflicting a cut leg wound on one and a superficial wound on the other—before fleeing the scene.

Forced Entry at Suspect’s Apartment

Bemowo police immediately initiated actions to identify the perpetrator. After pinpointing an apartment where he was reportedly staying, officers received no response despite repeated knocking and proceeded to force the door open. Inside, they found the 50-year-old, who could not rationally explain why he refused to open the door.

Prior Criminal Record and Formal Charges

The man was arrested and placed in a police cell, having previously been wanted by law enforcement and convicted for leading an organized criminal group and organizing illegal border crossings. Following the assembly of evidence, the suspect faced two criminal charges regarding moderate and minor bodily injury. At the request of the Warsaw-Wola District Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was temporarily detained for three months.
