On Friday July 24 Jarosław Kaczyński announced that about thirty lawmakers resigned from membership in Law and Justice. The party political committee will approve their decision this coming Tuesday. We do not want to part ways, but over 30 MPs have resigned from membership, announced the PiS leader adding that it simply turned out this way. The opposition leader did not answer journalists questions. His decision closes a conflict within the grouping that has lasted for many weeks.

Morawiecki Organizes Press Conference in the Sejm

At 14 oclock in the Sejm Mateusz Morawiecki organized his own press conference. We fought for the unity of the PiS camp until the last moment. Early this morning I sent a letter to the chairman with further proposals, the MP began. He emphasized that they acted in good faith until the very end. He announced that he is accompanied by 40 MPs, a senator, and three MEPs.

Ultimatum Over Associations Rejected

As he stated, at a certain point intrigue entered in the form of an ultimatum regarding associations. We could not accept being forced to sign a loyalty oath that de facto did not allow us to operate in the format we agreed upon 2-3 months ago, Morawiecki noted. The politician said that the Polish right currently lacks a hegemon.

We proposed unity, we said stop pushing us out. I mean a very small group of intriguers, said the former prime minister. This is indeed a new chapter in the political history of our country, but we look to the future with courage and determination, he emphasized.

Uncertainty Regarding a New Party

Morawiecki did not directly answer the question of whether a new party will be formed. We are surprised, we must discuss all plans. Just a few hours ago I reached out to the chairman, he added. Referring to Tuesday’s meeting of the PiS political committee, Morawiecki replied that there is still some time, perhaps sanity will prevail.

The politician was also asked about the latest Opinia24 poll for Fakty TVN and TVN24, which for the first time included Rozwój Plus. As we described on Gazeta.pl, it shows among other things that Morawiecki’s potential party would cross the electoral threshold and enter parliament. There is no party, therefore there are no reliable polls. Today is the first day we have factually been pushed away, removed, pushed out of PiS, so we will jointly consider our next steps, Morawiecki commented.

Ultimatum and Association Activities

Last week, the PiS leadership gave its members an ultimatum—by the end of Thursday, July 23, they had to leave associations conducting political activity, primarily Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus and Jacek Sasin’s Po Pierwsze Polska. Failure to comply with the decision was to result in exclusion from the party.

Jacek Sasin quickly announced the end of his association’s activity. Mateusz Morawiecki behaved differently, having previously declared that he does not intend to resign from Rozwój Plus.
