Zamość Court Orders Custody for 18-Year-Old Suspected of Injuring 8-Year-Old

A court in Zamość has ordered a two-month detention for an 18-year-old woman who, while intoxicated, allegedly attacked an eight-year-old girl with a sharp object on Thursday.

Police Intervention in Zamość

On Thursday, July 23, police in Zamość intervened in a residential area following reports of an attack. According to preliminary findings from the Municipal Police Command in Zamość, an 18-year-old walking through the neighborhood used a sharp object to randomly injure a young girl walking on the sidewalk, who was identified as an 8-year-old.

Hospitalization of the Victim

The injured 8-year-old victim was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. Examinations revealed that the girl sustained only a superficial wound and that her life is not in danger.

Prior Attack and Arrest of the Suspect

Zamość police reported that the suspect had allegedly attempted to injure another person, a 15-year-old girl, prior to the incident, though that victim sustained no injuries after successfully fending off the attack. The 18-year-old was detained, placed in a police holding cell, and found to have a blood alcohol level exceeding 2 per mille at the time of the incident.

Prosecutor Charges and Court Decision

On Saturday, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zamość formally charged the 18-year-old with causing bodily harm for a period of up to 7 days, attempted bodily harm against the 15-year-old, and making criminal threats toward the younger girl and her mother, with investigators classifying the acts as hooliganism. Junior Inspector Kamil Karbowniczek of the Lublin Provincial Police Headquarters stated that the District Court in Zamość approved an investigator request to remand the suspect in custody for two months, and she now faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
