Additional Funds for Retirees and Pensioners
Soon, millions of retirees and pensioners will receive additional funds from ZUS, though not everyone can count on a full payout. The primary factor determining the final amount is the size of the beneficiary’s regular pension, and we examine who will receive over PLN 1,600 net, whose benefit will be reduced, and who will receive nothing.
Eligibility Rules for the 14th Pension
The 14th pension is an additional annual benefit paid out alongside regular retirement or disability pensions. In 2026, this bonus is available to women over 60 and men over 65, and the funds will be transferred automatically to eligible individuals without requiring any documents or applications.
Amounts and the “1-for-1” Principle
The amount of the 14th pension depends on the minimum pension, making the full 2026 bonus PLN 1,978.49 gross, which equals approximately PLN 1,600-1,650 net after taxes and health contributions. Under the “one-for-one” rule, the full bonus is granted only to those whose basic pension or disability benefit does not exceed PLN 2,900 gross.
Sliding Scale and Reductions
If the basic pension exceeds PLN 2,900 gross, the 14th pension is reduced by the exact amount of the excess, meaning higher basic benefits result in a lower bonus. For instance, a basic pension of PLN 3,400 gross yields a bonus of about PLN 1,478.49 gross, while a PLN 4,200 gross benefit reduces the bonus to approximately PLN 678.49 gross.
Gross and Estimated Net Payout Structure
Gross pension overruns and resulting bonus levels range from the baseline PLN 1,978 zł gross with zero excess yielding roughly PLN 1,638 net, down to higher brackets such as a PLN 4,800 gross pension leaving a bonus of just PLN 78.49 gross or about PLN 60 net.
Exclusions and Eligibility Limits
With the 2026 minimum pension at PLN 1,978.49 gross, the absolute limit where the 14th pension is entirely lost sits at PLN 4,878.49 gross. Furthermore, ZUS will not disburse the bonus if the calculated amount falls below PLN 50 gross, meaning individuals receiving a pension higher than PLN 4,830 gross will receive nothing.
Disbursement Schedule
Payouts are scheduled for September 2026, with exact timetables to be announced closer to the date, though the funds should traditionally arrive in accounts alongside regular monthly pension or disability payments.
Static Threshold Concerns and Future Rules
Although benefits rise due to indexation, the eligibility threshold for the full 14th pension has remained unchanged at PLN 2,900 gross for years, causing a growing number of seniors to lose part or all of their support. While experts point out that the issue will worsen without raising this threshold, the government has announced no such changes, leaving current regulations in place for 2026.
