„Collector” and „Recruiter” Arrested by Wilanów Police Over Senior Scam

Warsaw Wilanów police arrested a minor acting as a money collector and an 18-year-old recruiter after a senior was defrauded of 45,000 PLN in a telephone scam.

Arrest of Two Suspects in Warsaw Wilanów

Police officers from the Criminal Division of the Warsaw Wilanów Police Station detained two individuals suspected of participating in a fraud targeting a senior citizen, who was manipulated into handing over 45,000 PLN. Authorities first identified and arrested a minor acting as the so-called „collector,” followed by the man responsible for recruiting him and coordinating the criminal operation. By court decision, the minor was placed in a juvenile detention center, while the older suspect was remanded in temporary custody for two months.

Investigation Into Late June Fraud Scheme

The proceedings conducted by the Warsaw Wilanów police concerned a scam that occurred in late June of this year. Operating under the well-known „legend” scam scheme, the perpetrators led the victim into handing over 45,000 PLN in cash.

Apprehension of the 16-Year-Old Collector

As a result of operational work, officers determined the whereabouts of the person who collected the money from the senior. The detainee turned out to be a 16-year-old. During the operations, authorities secured a mobile phone and the clothing he wore while collecting the cash. Investigators established that the young man was recruited via an internet messenger and was paid to collect the designated package of money.

Detention of the 18-Year-Old Recruiter

Further thorough analysis of the gathered evidence and secured data allowed detectives to identify another person involved in the criminal procedure. A few days later, police arrested an 18-year-old man who, according to investigators’ findings, was responsible for recruiting the minor and organizing his participation in the fraud.

Court Decisions on Custody and Detention

Both detainees were brought before the court. By court decision, the minor was placed in a juvenile detention center for a period of three months. Meanwhile, regarding the 18-year-old, the court granted the prosecutor’s request and applied temporary arrest for a period of two months.
