PiS to Decide on Rozwój Plus Members as Morawiecki Expects to Miss Meeting

The Law and Justice Political Committee is set to approve the expulsion of over 30 parliamentarians linked to Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus association, while the former prime minister will be absent.

Political Committee to Approve Expulsions

The Law and Justice Political Committee is scheduled to approve the expulsion from the party of over 30 parliamentarians belonging to Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus association on Tuesday, July 28. Former Prime Minister Morawiecki admitted he will not be present during the committee meeting, noting that he has another meeting at that time.

Ultimatum Deadline and Leadership Stance

The midnight deadline for the ultimatum issued by PiS leadership to the party’s parliamentarians expired on Thursday, July 23. Lawmakers were required to submit declarations stating they do not belong to associations conducting political activities under threat of party expulsion, specifically targeting Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus. A day later, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński stated that a group of party politicians resigned from membership knowing the consequences of not signing the document, with the Political Committee set to confirm the decision on Tuesday at 5:00 PM.

Morawiecki Responds to the Meeting

Morawiecki stated he did not receive an invitation, only a reminder. He remarked that they were forgotten at the very beginning, but a reminder that such a committee meeting would take place arrived today. According to the PiS statute, party membership can cease due to belonging to an organization whose goals contradict the principles, ideological program, or interests of PiS, or through active support of such an organization.

Future Parliamentary Club Plans

Politicians associated with Morawiecki emphasize that they have not resigned from PiS and that the declaration did not concern party membership, claiming that “intriguers” want to push them out of the party. On Monday, July 27, Morawiecki announced that a Rozwój Plus meeting would take place after the PiS Political Committee session, and if expelled, they would establish a parliamentary club, discussing the club and the position of Deputy Marshal of the Sejm. A Sejm club requires at least 15 MPs, while the current PiS parliamentary club has 186 MPs, and Morawiecki reported that his circle includes 40 MPs, a senator, and three MEPs.

Departures and Ongoing Discussions

On Monday, politicians associated with Morawiecki’s association announced the departure of MP Grzegorz Lorek, who signed the declaration required by PiS leadership. Lorek commented on his decision on X, quoting Lincoln about being faithful to what he considers right. Morawiecki admitted that talks are underway with other PiS parliamentarians regarding joining the association, noting that not all discussions are conducted by him.
