9-Year-Old Cyclist Dies After Being Hit by BMW on Sidewalk in Poland

A nine-year-old boy has died in an Opole hospital after a BMW driver veered onto a sidewalk and struck him while he was riding his bicycle near his home in Kuźnica Stara.

Fatal Collision on Kolejowa Street

Emergency services received a call at 7:30 p.m. regarding an incident in Kuźnica Stara on Kolejowa Street, heading from Przystajń. According to traffic police findings provided by st. asp. Joanna Wiącek-Głowacz of the Kłobuck Police Department, a 39-year-old driver of a BMW passenger car drifted onto the sidewalk on a road curve and struck a nine-year-old boy riding a bicycle near his home.

Hospital Transport and Tragic Outcome

The child was transported in critical condition by a Medical Air Rescue helicopter to a hospital in Opole, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Driver and Passenger Status

The 39-year-old driver was also taken to the hospital. A 32-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man traveling in the vehicle sustained no injuries. Breathalyzer tests confirmed that the driver and passengers were sober. Authorities drew blood samples from all occupants to test for drugs. All individuals traveling in the car were detained, including the driver who sustained no serious injuries and was discharged from the hospital.

On-Site Investigation

Kłobuck traffic police, a crime scene technician, and investigators worked at the scene until late into the night. Preliminary procedural actions involving the detainees were scheduled for Friday, with the investigation supervised by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Częstochowa.
