Major Scandal at Południowy Hospital: Key Decisions Made Following Audit Findings

Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced that the official audit results for Południowy Hospital have been received, with findings and recommendations to be presented this week.

Audit Results in the Hands of the Warsaw Mayor

The audit was delivered on Monday, and Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski stated he will review it and likely present its conclusions and recommendations on Wednesday.

He emphasized that all conclusions from the city hall will be made public and recalled that the administration has also commissioned audits regarding emergency departments and morgues in other municipal hospitals.

Investigations and Resignations Following Media Reports

The audits were commissioned in connection with reports by the Zero.pl portal, which detailed the case of doctor and former Civic Coalition (KO) councilor Dawid Kacprzyk.

Portal journalists reported that at the department managed by him, Civic Coalition politicians were allegedly admitted without waiting in line, receiving comprehensive examinations almost immediately after registration.

Dawid Kacprzyk, serving as the emergency department coordinator at Południowy Hospital and a KO councilor in Warsaw’s Ursus district, reportedly earned 1.6 million PLN last year during his anesthesiology specialization. Two investigations were launched into Południowy Hospital on Monday: one concerning fraud exceeding half a million PLN and another regarding abuse of powers by a public official.

Proceedings by the Supreme Medical Chamber are also underway. Dawid Kacprzyk resigned from his KO membership and his Ursus district mandate, and returned half a million PLN of his earnings to the hospital. The Mayor of Warsaw dismissed the hospital’s management board and supervisory board, while two deputy mayors of the city tendered their resignations.

Services and Institutions Scrutinize Municipal Facilities

Inspections by the National Health Fund are currently underway in municipal hospitals. Alongside city officials, prosecutors, and National Health Fund representatives, the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) will also scrutinize the facility.

Devastating NIK Report Highlights Numerous Irregularities

The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) published the results of its inspection of the hospital, indicating numerous irregularities in facility management, work organization, settlement of National Health Fund services, and the use of hospital premises.

NIK’s objections included the organization of medical personnel’s work, which led to overwork, as well as improper management of medical equipment belonging to the hospital.
