Discovery of the Body in the Narew River
On Monday, August 3, emergency services recovered the body of a 45-year-old Warsaw resident from the Narew River in Pułtusk, who had disappeared beneath the surface of the river the previous day. The man was pulled from the water after 3:00 PM, and his death was confirmed at the scene.
Sunday Incident Near the Sewage Treatment Plant
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 2, in the area of the sewage treatment plant, past the so-called Wyszków bridge. The report reached emergency services at around 3:00 PM.
Information provided indicated that two men had entered the Narew River. They were standing a few meters from the shore when one of them lost his footing. A strong current swept away the 45-year-old resident of Warsaw, who vanished beneath the water’s surface a moment later.
Search Operation Involving Police, Firefighters, and Rescuers
Police officers, firefighters from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service, and rescuers from the Pułtusk Water Volunteer Rescue Service (WOPR) were dispatched to the scene. The operations involved firefighters from Pułtusk, as well as members of the OSP Grabówiec and OSP Głodowo volunteer fire departments.
The search was conducted from both the shore and the water. Rescuers utilized boats equipped with specialized equipment. State Fire Service divers from Maków Mazowiecki were also deployed to check the riverbed where the man was last seen.
Continuation of Operations and Recovery
Sunday’s operations lasted until late evening without producing results. On Monday morning, police officers, firefighters, and WOPR rescuers resumed the search.
After 3:00 PM, emergency services located and recovered the body of the missing 45-year-old. Despite the efforts undertaken, the man’s life could not be saved, and his death was confirmed on site.
Police Warning Regarding Narew River Hazards
The Pułtusk police remind the public that the Narew River can pose a serious threat even in areas that appear calm from the shore. A strong current, sudden drops in the riverbed, and limited underwater visibility can lead to a loss of footing and prevent a safe return to the shore.
