German Tourists Fined for Entering Polish-Russian Border Zone for Souvenir Photos

Border Guard officers in Węgorzewo intervened against two German tourists who ignored traffic prohibitions to enter the Polish-Russian border zone to take pictures.

Border Guard officers from the Border Guard Post in Węgorzewo, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, intervened against two tourists from Germany who entered the Polish-Russian border region despite an existing ban.

Ignored Signs and Unauthorized Photography

The Warmian-Masurian Border Guard Unit reported on Wednesday, August 5, that the foreigners ignored a B-1 sign, which indicates a ban on traffic in both directions. According to information provided by the Border Guard, the men wanted to see the border with Russia up close and took photographs of the Russian side during their stay in the border zone.

Fines Issued for Violations

For violating the regulations, the officers punished the tourists with fines totaling 1,200 PLN. TVP Info reported that for the traffic offense, each of them was fined 500 PLN, and additionally, a 63-year-old man received a 200 PLN fine for taking pictures.

The Border Guard reminds the public that special security rules apply in the state border area. Signage and entry bans aim to protect the border and ensure citizen safety, which is why drivers must strictly obey applicable road signs.
