Lukashenko to Answer for Complicity in Russian Aggression Against Ukraine? “We Have Evidence”

Belarusian democratic forces have gathered evidence of Alexander Lukashenko’s complicity in Russian aggression and war crimes, aiming to hold him accountable before a special international tribunal.

Transfer of Evidence to Ukraine

The gathered evidentiary material is to be handed over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. In an interview with the Polish Press Agency, Latushka expressed hope that the materials will be used in the initiated investigation.

Latushka noted that the most important task now is the ratification of the statutory documents of the administrative body of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

Call for Ratification of Tribunal Documents

Latushka stated that they are appealing to partners from democratic countries for the ratification to take place as soon as possible, which would allow the Steering Committee of the special tribunal to begin its work.

The Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine is a prepared international body aimed at prosecuting Russian political and military leaders for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

International Framework and Objectives

Its work is directed by an international preparatory group involving several dozen countries. The agreement on the establishment of the tribunal was signed in May in Chișinău by 36 member states of the Council of Europe, as well as the European Union, Australia, and Costa Rica.

Speaking to PAP about the Friday meeting in Warsaw titled “The Role of Belarus in the Aggression Against Ukraine: Holding the Highest Authorities of the Lukashenko Regime Accountable,” Latushka emphasized that the goal of Belarusian democratic forces is to hold Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko accountable for complicity in Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as for crimes against humanity and war crimes related to the deportation of Ukrainian children from occupied territories of Ukraine to Belarus and their subsequent indoctrination.

Priorities of the Belarusian Opposition

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya stated in Warsaw that the Belarusian leadership must be held accountable for complicity in Russian aggression against Ukraine before the emerging special tribunal, adding that for the United Transitional Cabinet, her office, and all democratic forces, holding them accountable is an absolute priority.

Tsikhanouskaya serves as the head of the opposition United Transitional Cabinet, which functions as the Belarusian government in exile.
