Massive Data Leak Involving 19 Million Poles
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski stated that a massive data leak has occurred, potentially covering information concerning nearly 19 million Poles. The stolen database is over 2 TB in size. He noted that at this stage, there is no indication that an external cyberattack was behind the incident.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that we are dealing with an unprecedented and very large security incident in the Polish infosphere. The leaked data affects nearly 19 million people who used medical support in various categories.
Coordination with Officials and Authorities
Gawkowski stated that he is in constant contact with Minister Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister of Health Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office Mirosław Wróblewski.
The leak of medical data of 19 million Poles is currently being investigated by the services. Law enforcement agencies have been involved in the matter, with the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime overseeing the operational part in contact with the prosecutor’s office.
Security Measures and Investigation
Gawkowski stated that actions have been coordinated and the Polish state is securing everything related to the cybersecurity incident. The company itself confirms that 19 million records associated with various mutually linkable data were stolen from the firm.
During a meeting of the joint Cyber Security Operations Center, safety mechanisms were managed. A procedure was implemented to secure all leaked data so that it can be transferred to the Safe Data database (bezpiecznedane.gov.pl), where every citizen will be able to check if their data has leaked.
Gawkowski also stated that actions will be intensified and suspects will be sought. He noted that at the moment there is no indication of an attack by another country.
