Taxi Driver Murdered in Pomerania: Investigators Reveal Motive

A 27-year-old man from Czersk was arrested in Gdańsk after fatally stabbing a 75-year-old taxi driver on the night of June 12–13 near Młynki, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in a robbery attempt.

The Crime and Fatal Encounter

On the night of June 12 to 13, a 27-year-old passenger requested a ride toward Chojnice. He directed the 75-year-old driver to pull over at a roadside parking lot, where he stabbed the victim. The suspect attempted to flee in the victim’s Mercedes but abandoned the vehicle only a few hundred meters away, likely because he failed to take the keys.

The victim’s body was discovered at a parking area near National Road 22, close to Młynki. Paramedics confirmed the driver was already deceased upon their arrival.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Authorities identified 27-year-old Mateusz G. of Czersk as the suspect. Police apprehended him in Gdańsk at 2:00 PM on Saturday, subsequently transferring him to a detention center in Chojnice.

Chojnice District Prosecutor Mirosław Orłowski stated that formal proceedings were delayed until Monday because the suspect was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

Evidence and Stated Motive

Investigators have secured blood-stained clothing and fingerprints belonging to the suspect. While the murder weapon has not yet been recovered, an autopsy revealed the victim sustained three wounds: one slash to the neck inside the car and two stab wounds to the chest outside the vehicle.

Prosecutor Orłowski confirmed that the motive behind the attack appears to have been robbery, specifically targeting the driver’s Mercedes.
