Mława Murder Investigation: Suspect Found Mentally Fit for Trial

Psychiatric experts have concluded that 18-year-old Bartosz G., accused of the brutal murder of 16-year-old Maja K. in Mława, was fully aware of his actions and is fit to stand trial.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Płock announced on Monday that a team of five experts found no grounds to question the sanity of Bartosz G. at the time of the crime. The opinion was based on a comprehensive psychiatric observation completed in a specialized facility.

According to the experts, the suspect’s current mental health allows him to participate in legal proceedings. This means Bartosz G. is capable of conducting his own defense in a reasonable and independent manner.

The court ordered a four-week psychiatric observation in February following a request from the prosecution. The ongoing investigation concerns the murder of 16-year-old Maja K., which occurred in Mława in April 2025 under circumstances described as involving particular cruelty.

Prior to the full observation, the suspect underwent a preliminary one-day evaluation in January. The results of that initial assessment prompted prosecutors to seek a more extensive stay in a psychiatric facility to finalize the opinion.

Following the conclusion of the psychiatric observation, Bartosz G. was returned to custody. Prosecutors have requested that his temporary detention be extended for another three months as the case continues.
