The police operation in Biała Podlaska concluded following the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old Russian national on Monday morning. Unofficial reports from Radio ZET indicate that authorities detained a suspect connected to the attack, which occurred near Królowej Jadwigi Street.
While social media footage allegedly shows an intervention near the Belarusian consulate, police have not officially confirmed the authenticity of the video or the identity of the detainee. Reports suggesting the suspect is a Belarusian citizen also remain unconfirmed as the prosecutor’s office continues its investigation.
Victim’s History as a Kremlin Critic
The victim, Semyon Skrepetski—born Robert Kuzowkow in 1981—was an artist, performer, and political commentator who fled Russia in 2021 fearing political persecution. He had resided in Poland for several years, frequently using pseudonyms like Robert Burdai and Skreponosny Buzoter.
Skrepetski gained online recognition for his uncompromising criticism of the Russian government, specifically targeting Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov. His creative output included satirical drawings and street performances aimed at exposing the mechanisms of the Russian political system.
Investigation into Potential Political Motive
Investigators are exploring the possibility that the murder was tied to the victim’s political activism. Law enforcement sources described the event as an execution, noting that the attacker fired several shots from close range before delivering a final, fatal shot.
The prosecutor’s office is currently analyzing Skrepetski’s social media activity, as his habit of publicly disclosing his location may have facilitated the attack. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, stated that Polish authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into all circumstances surrounding the death.
