Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka Appointed Deputy Defense Minister

Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz appointed Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka as Deputy Minister of Defense on Friday, June 19, tasking her with overseeing military procurement and long-term army modernization programs.

A New Role in the Ministry of Defense

On Friday, June 19, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz officially appointed Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka as a Deputy Minister. Her new portfolio includes direct responsibility for procurement operations within the Polish Armed Forces.

A Track Record in Brussels and Warsaw

Sobkowiak-Czarnecka brings extensive experience to the ministry, having worked at the European Commission between 2016 and 2018 with a focus on economic, defense, and space policy. A former journalist, she previously served as chief of staff for Kosiniak-Kamysz’s presidential campaign and later as an undersecretary of state for European Union affairs, where she managed preparations for Poland’s 2025 EU Council presidency.

Spearheading the SAFE Program

Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted the new deputy’s success in spearheading the “SAFE” (Instrument for Strengthening European Security) program. Under her guidance, Poland secured 44 billion euros in EU funding to facilitate the modernization and transformation of national defense capabilities, a feat the Minister described as a significant victory for Polish interests in Brussels.

Focusing on Defense Exports and National Resilience

Accepting the appointment, Sobkowiak-Czarnecka pledged to prioritize national resilience and the continued transformation of the armed forces. She stated that a core objective of her tenure will be the promotion of the Polish defense industry, aiming to transition the sector into a global powerhouse capable of significant international exports.
