Tusk Demands Legal Oversight in Southern Hospital Scandal

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has pledged to engage the Prosecutor General to oversee the investigation into systemic controversies and internal conflicts at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital, promising a full, transparent resolution.

Government Intervention and Investigations

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced he will request the Prosecutor General to supervise the case due to its significant social impact. He emphasized that the investigation must reach its conclusion regardless of the political or personal consequences involved.

The Prime Minister noted that former councilor Dawid Kacprzyk has resigned from the Civic Coalition and returned approximately 500,000 PLN to the hospital. Tusk maintained that this does not resolve the matter, as the case is currently under scrutiny by the prosecutor’s office, the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), and an internal municipal audit.

Internal Conflicts and Administrative Failures

Evidence suggests the scandal stems from a deep-seated dispute between two physicians. Reports indicate that the former head of surgery had warned hospital management and Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski about Dawid Kacprzyk’s conduct as far back as last year.

Allegations against Kacprzyk include performing unauthorized procedures without proper supervision and inciting conflict among staff and patients. Mayor Trzaskowski stated that formal legal channels are the appropriate path for reporting such irregularities, noting that the hospital is currently locked in a legal dispute with the former head of surgery following his termination.

Financial Disclosures and Employment Controversy

Dawid Kacprzyk, a 29-year-old physician, reported earnings of nearly 1.6 million PLN last year from medical services. Serving as the emergency department coordinator at the Southern Hospital, he was dismissed following public revelations regarding his activities.

Kacprzyk has not provided a comment regarding the allegations or the ongoing investigations. The hospital’s management is also seeking the recovery of 531,000 PLN from the former head of surgery, who was fired in September due to documented administrative failures.
