Shocking Allegations at Southern Hospital: Warsaw Mayor Requests Prosecutor Investigation

Following a broadcast interview where a former department head alleged patient deaths due to medical negligence, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced he will request an urgent investigation by the Prosecutor General.

Allegations of Fatal Negligence

In a late-night appearance on Kanal Zero, Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, former head of surgery at Southern Hospital, claimed that patients were dying at the hospital’s emergency department because of the employment of Dawid Kacprzyk, a doctor without specialized certification. Jędrzejewski asserted that medical errors led to lethal complications and argued that every death in the emergency unit requires a thorough analysis.

The former official described severe organizational failures, including instances where patients were left unattended for hours. He recounted a specific case where a deceased patient was discovered in a restroom, alleging that staff subsequently performed tests on the body and falsified medical records to create an appearance of proper care.

Concerns Over Hospital Management

Jędrzejewski stated that many hospital staff were aware of these systemic problems but failed to act effectively. He reported significant deficits in the surgical department, noting a lack of permanent nursing staff and patients remaining hospitalized for excessive periods simply because no one was authorized to discharge them.

The former surgeon attributed these issues to the leadership of the then-28-year-old Dawid Kacprzyk. Jędrzejewski claims he attempted to report these concerns through internal hospital channels and eventually reached out to Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, though he maintains he received no response to his messages.

The Dispute and Legal Counter-Claims

Jędrzejewski was dismissed from the hospital two months after allegedly reporting these irregularities, with management citing aggressive behavior toward Dr. Kacprzyk as a cause. The doctor admitted to using an offensive term toward his colleague but denied allegations of physical assault.

The hospital has initiated its own legal action against Jędrzejewski, demanding the return of over half a million zlotys for allegedly falsified shifts and procedures. Representatives of the Civic Coalition have suggested that the doctor’s claims are motivated by personal animosity following the failure of his private business plans, which reportedly included a request for city-owned land.

Official Response and Investigation

Addressing the allegations, Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced via social media that he would submit a formal request to the Prosecutor General for immediate clarification of the events. Trzaskowski maintained that he had no prior knowledge of these incidents and that no official reports regarding these specific concerns had reached his office.
