Prosecutors to Question Whistleblower Over Southern Hospital Deaths

Waldemar Żurek, the Prosecutor General, has confirmed that Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski will be questioned regarding his allegations of medical malpractice and patient deaths at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital.

Planned Investigative Steps

In a recent interview, Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek confirmed that Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski is scheduled for questioning. The priority is to secure all evidentiary materials identified by the doctor to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the facility’s operations.

Prosecutors will re-examine all previous cases involving patient deaths at the Southern Hospital that were previously submitted to the authorities. Żurek emphasized that the matter is too serious to be ignored or handled superficially.

Questioning the Whistleblower’s Motives

While acknowledging the gravity of the allegations, Żurek noted that Dr. Jędrzejewski is currently in a professional dispute with the hospital. The prosecutor questioned why these serious concerns were not raised earlier, yet maintained that the information provided must be thoroughly vetted.

Dr. Jędrzejewski, the former head of surgery at the Southern Hospital, alleged that malpractice at the facility extended far beyond VIP privileges. He claimed that flawed procedures at the emergency department led to preventable complications and patient deaths.

The former department head also described a culture of silence, alleging that medical staff were sometimes required to perform examinations on deceased patients to create documentation. He asserted that the entire hospital was aware of these practices.

Potential Questioning of the Mayor

When asked about the possibility of questioning Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, the Prosecutor General stated that the investigating prosecutor must maintain full autonomy. However, he indicated that if it is confirmed the Mayor received reports of these irregularities, his testimony will be a necessary component of the investigation.

Trzaskowski responded on social media, announcing that he will formally request the Prosecutor General to urgently investigate the claims made by Dr. Jędrzejewski. The Mayor has maintained that he had no prior knowledge of these specific events at the hospital.
