Intruder Halts Warsaw Metro M1 Line, Ten Stations Closed

Warsaw public transport faced significant disruptions on Wednesday morning after an unauthorized individual entered the M1 metro tunnel, forcing the closure of ten stations until police apprehended the trespasser.

Security Breach on the M1 Line

Warsaw Public Transport reported major service disruptions on the M1 line Wednesday morning. Metro spokesperson Anna Bartoń confirmed that alarm systems detected an unauthorized person within the tunnels.

Police patrols located and apprehended the intruder at Służew station. Following the security check and clearance, the Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego announced after 11:00 a.m. that full metro service had resumed.

Investigation and Safety Protocols

While the immediate threat was neutralized, Metro Warszawskie initiated safety inspections to ensure the tunnel was clear of suspicious objects. These procedures, involving police and a search dog, were prioritized to guarantee passenger safety.

Authorities confirmed that the detained man is a foreign national who possesses no identification documents. The suspect, who communicates in English and French, remains under police investigation to determine his identity.

Emergency Transit Alternatives

To mitigate the impact of the closure, transport officials deployed emergency bus and tram services. The ZM1 bus line was activated to bridge the gap between Metro Politechnika and Osiedle Kabaty.

Additionally, the ZM2 tram line was introduced to provide transit connectivity between Metro Wilanowska and Plac Narutowicza, maintaining transport flow throughout the affected sectors of the city.
