Addressing the Growing Water Crisis
As water scarcity increasingly threatens industrial stability and agricultural output across Europe, the Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs (FPP) has initiated talks with the World Bank. The discussions focus on developing policies and financial instruments to bolster water resilience within the national economy.
Magdalena Rzeczkowska, representing the FPP, engaged with experts from the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), including Yogita Upadya Mumssen, Sarah Nedolast, Claire Chase, Dany Vardi, Patricia Lopez, and Jason Zhengrong Lu.
Strategic Frameworks and Financing
The FPP is leading the “Water & Finance” expert group to create modern financial instruments for water infrastructure. A central topic was the Federation’s “Water Strategy for Polish Industry,” which aligns with the European Water Resilience Strategy, emphasizing resource management, monitoring, and reuse.
Rzeczkowska highlighted specific Polish initiatives, including the ZK Paprotnia project for water security in municipalities, the ORLEN Blue Bridge initiative for industrial recycling of municipal sewage, and the “We Care About Water” coalition in the Żywiec region.
International Cooperation for Water Security
The dialogue aimed to establish long-term cooperation between the FPP and the World Bank Group. This partnership seeks to leverage technical expertise and international experience to implement effective water management models.
According to Magdalena Rzeczkowska, who also directs the FPP Brussels office, water security is a primary economic challenge of the 21st century. She stresses that moving from ambitious strategies to tangible investments requires active engagement with global financial institutions.
