Russia Declares State of Emergency in Crimea and Sevastopol

Russian officials in occupied Crimea and Sevastopol have declared a regional state of emergency to address mounting economic instability and severe infrastructure failures following sustained Ukrainian drone strikes.

State of Emergency Declared

Sergey Aksyonov, head of the Republic of Crimea, announced the signing of decrees establishing a regional state of emergency. He stated the measure is intended to resolve economic problems and restore the stable functioning of vital public life sectors.

The governor of Russian-occupied Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, issued a parallel declaration shortly after. The move follows two days of significant energy shortages across the region caused by a mass drone attack on Sevastopol’s electrical infrastructure, including the key Balaklava power plant.

Energy and Logistics Crisis

Prior to the emergency declaration, authorities introduced rolling power outages across the peninsula. Simultaneously, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces destroyed a strategic railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal, a critical logistics route for the Russian military.

Fuel shortages have also crippled the region, with Sergey Aksyonov suspending fuel sales to civilians following drone strikes on fuel terminals in the Kerch port and Port Kavkaz in the Krasnodar region.

Targeting Russian Naval Assets

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) confirmed successful strikes on two Russian military vessels and air defense systems in Kerch. The operation targeted the Volga and Vyatka cable-laying ships, as well as the Petropavlovsk cargo-passenger ferry.

The SBU highlighted that the damaged ships, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, were equipped to deploy underwater surveillance systems and conduct minelaying operations. Additionally, SBU drones neutralized an S-400 missile system radar and weaponry guarding the Kerch Strait.

Strategic Objectives

The SBU stated that these systematic strikes aim to dismantle the peninsula’s role as a Russian military and logistical hub. By disabling naval and port infrastructure, Ukraine seeks to sever the occupier’s supply lines and clear a path for future precision attacks.
