Eight-Year-Old Girl Hospitalized Following Dog Attack in Sosnowiec

A young girl remains in serious condition after being attacked by dogs at a workplace in Sosnowiec on Friday evening, prompting police to issue an urgent warning about animal behavior.

The Attack at the Workplace

On Friday shortly before 8:00 PM, a man arrived at a business premises in the Dańdówka district of Sosnowiec with his two daughters, aged 8 and 10, to feed the dogs kept on the site.

The dogs, which were familiar to the family and had never previously shown signs of aggression, suddenly attacked the younger girl. The father attempted to shield his daughter with his own body and sustained injuries in the process.

Emergency Response and Medical Status

Bystanders intervened to help drive the dogs away. The 8-year-old was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, while her father received immediate medical assistance. The 10-year-old girl was unharmed.

Following the incident, the attending veterinarian ordered the dogs to be moved to a shelter for observation.

Police Advisory on Canine Behavior

The Sosnowiec Police Department emphasized that even familiar, previously docile dogs can behave unpredictably. They advise the public to practice limited trust around animals and to recognize signs of aggression, such as raised hackles, stiff posture, growling, and bared teeth.

Authorities suggest that if confronted by an aggressive dog, one should avoid running, maintain a side-on stance, and refrain from making direct eye contact. If an attack occurs, victims are advised to adopt the “turtle” position to protect vital body parts until the animal loses interest.
