Standard Nursing Allowance
The standard nursing allowance is the most common benefit, granted automatically by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) upon reaching age 75. Seniors aged 85 and older are entitled to this payment, which, following the 5.3 percent indexation in March 2026, amounts to 366.68 PLN gross and net.
No formal application is required for this benefit. However, payment is suspended if a senior resides in a nursing or social welfare facility where more than half of the costs are covered by the state budget.
Supplementary Benefit for Seniors (500 Plus)
This support is designed for seniors who are incapable of independent living and meet specific income criteria. In 2026, the maximum monthly amount is 550.02 PLN gross and net, with an eligibility income threshold of approximately 2,500 PLN.
To receive this benefit, applicants must submit a request to ZUS and undergo a medical assessment. If a senior’s income exceeds the threshold, a “zloty for a zloty” reduction rule applies.
The 2026 Senior Voucher
The government has introduced a non-cash Senior Voucher to support families caring for individuals over 75. Valued at up to 2,150.00 PLN, this benefit is used to pay for care services such as assistance with shopping or medical appointments.
The family of the senior, upon whom the statutory obligation of support rests, must apply for the voucher at the local municipal office. Eligible seniors must meet income criteria, and their family caregivers must be professionally active.
Benefits for War Invalids and Veterans
War invalids who are fully incapable of work and independent living are entitled to an increased nursing allowance of 550.02 PLN gross and net. This benefit replaces the standard nursing allowance entirely.
Additionally, veterans and those involved in clandestine teaching receive a veteran’s supplement of 366.68 PLN gross and net. Eligible individuals may also receive an energy lump-sum payment of 336.16 PLN per month to help offset utility costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Pension supplements are legally exempt from personal income tax (PIT) and health insurance contributions, meaning gross and net amounts are identical. Documentation for benefits like the veteran’s supplement must be submitted to ZUS.
For the Senior Voucher, applications are handled by municipal offices. In all cases, residents of state-funded care facilities may face a suspension of their nursing allowance if state coverage of their stay exceeds 50 percent.
