Russian Embassy in Stockholm Targeted by Drone Attacks

The Russian embassy in Stockholm reported drone incursions on July 2, including one device carrying a fake explosive, labeling the incidents as an attempt to intimidate their diplomatic mission.

The Russian embassy in Stockholm disclosed the event on its Telegram channel on Thursday, July 2. The facility characterized the attack as a blatant attempt at intimidation, asserting that the Swedish side bears full responsibility for any future incidents and their consequences.

One drone dropped a container of red paint onto the embassy grounds, while a second drone, equipped with a decoy explosive, crashed accidentally near the building. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed these attacks occur with the full approval of Swedish authorities.

A pattern of persistent provocation

According to TASS, over 15 drone attacks on Russian diplomatic sites in Sweden have been recorded since May 2024, involving paint drops and property damage. Authorities noted that glass paint containers pose serious physical risks due to their weight and potential to shatter.

The embassy has filed reports with the police and sent notes to the Swedish Foreign Ministry, demanding adherence to international obligations regarding diplomatic security. While the embassy continues to implement safety measures, it noted that its internal capabilities remain limited.

Failed police investigations

Drone attacks on the Stockholm embassy have been documented regularly by Swedish media. Previous incidents include a May 2025 paint attack on the main entrance and a November 2025 sighting where an unknown liquid substance was found on the premises.

In all recorded cases, investigations by Swedish police—primarily focusing on property damage and aviation violations—have failed to identify or apprehend the perpetrators.
