The Myth of Age-Based Priority

Seniors often face long queues for medical consultations, but simply being over the age of 60 is insufficient for priority status. To receive care outside the standard waiting list, a patient must present a specific medical certificate confirming their eligibility.

Eligibility Requirements and Scope

Priority access is reserved for individuals with a significant degree of disability, provided their certificate indicates the need for constant, long-term care or the assistance of a guardian for rehabilitation. This status allows patients to bypass standard queues at primary care clinics, specialist offices, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Claiming Your Right to Expedited Care

Eligible patients should inform the clinic of their status during registration, either in person or by phone. Facilities are required to provide care on the day of request or, if unavailable, schedule an appointment outside the standard waiting list, typically within seven business days for specialist consultations.

Handling Facility Non-Compliance

If a medical facility or pharmacy refuses to honor these priority rights, patients may file a formal complaint with the facility’s management or the regional branch of the National Health Fund (NFZ). Assistance is also available through the Patient Ombudsman.

Proposed Access for Uniformed Services

Parliament is currently reviewing the Uniformed Family Card project, which may eventually grant medical priority to professional soldiers, Territorial Defense Forces, MSWiA service officers, and their families, including veterans and survivors of those killed in the line of duty.
